Hi I’m Phil and I live in Portland, Oregon. I am a technical writer with a background in literature, geography, and software development. I earned my Technical Writing Certificate from Oregon State University.
I’m always up for a challenge and believe any problem can be solved with good communication and teamwork. My communication skills, dedication, and desire to learn make me a great team player, but I am also confident doing self-directed work. I have over 12 years of experience as a technical writer and editor, as well as several years’ experience copywriting technical documents. The majority of my career was spent working as a technical writer and developer support analyst for an international spatial analysis software company. I authored and edited many types of technical documents, including “How To”, “Error”, “FAQ”, “Problem”, and “Bug”. I also wrote several code sample and software customization documents in my role as a developer support analyst.
More recently I was self-employed as the owner-operator of a small café and bakery, for which I designed and authored the business web site, wrote for social media accounts, and public communication and advertisements. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my children and family, “the outdoors” (camping, hiking, kayaking), cooking, reading, music, going to concerts, and watching movies.
Take a look at my portfolio to see recent examples of my work.
I look forward to meeting you.
